What would the world have been like if the world wouldn’t have been this divided?

Well, we don't know, nobody knows because the world had never been through that great unification of humanity. But, it is not that nobody tried to do something like that. There had been personalities from across the globe all over history, who in their philosophical mind, imagined a place for all humanity as one. The idea is simple it is not to have something sophisticated, but to have nothing in terms of the political borders.

Earliest Ideas

With no political borders, there remain no things like country or state or something like that, the only thing that remains is a huge chunk of land, on which terrestrial plants and animals and other inhabitants of this planet live.

And this idea can be seen being summoned for various purposes ranging from a desire to rule over the entire world to bringing peace all across the land on this planet to showing off of political powers and many more. It is not that no one have had ever tried this thing, in actuality, there are plenty of them who tried to do the same. The history of these things dates back to 3300BC to some 1200BC.

It was the bronze age (3300-1200 BC), which is eventually the time when early Egyptians witnessed their golden age when Egyptian kings used the phrase “All that the sun encircles” to describe the area that they want under their control or aim to rule. A similar thing was seen in Mesopotamian civilization where kings aimed for “All from sunrise to sunset”, similar was the thing with Chinese and Japanese who wanted “All under Heaven ” under their control. This idea of uniting the whole world by conquering it was further developed for universal monarchy by middle age poets and intellectuals like Dante(Italian Poet), Mercurino di Gattinara are some among many sharing this common idea of universal monarchy. But for Immanuel Kant(German Philosopher) this unification meant or needed to bring perpetual peace in the world, and he expressed his ideas on peace and unification in an essay titled “Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch”. They are some of the most influential personalities of the middle ages sharing a common idea of great unification of humanity but with a very different purpose for which they want to utilize this unification.

The purpose included reign if the worst and suffering and it also included the proposal of universal peace against war.

The ideas of the 20th century on this

Some people took this idea even further, they set up their own religion to cause this great unification. One such thing was attempted by Bahá'u'lláh by establishing its own religion called Baháʼí Faith which strongly promote unity among all humans.

In modern-day, strong and important personalities also involved themselves in this idea, they included famous sci-fi writer H.G. Wells (in his writing named ‘Anticipation’), Theodore Roosevelt, and other important figures. Karl Marx’s communism also included the great unification of humanity.

Later, these ideologies shaped institutions like the International Peace Congress, International Organization, League of Nations, etc. to protect and maintain universal peace for greater humanity before World War I., and surprisingly, they all lose their function due to the absence of war in the late 19th century. Then, the situation got worsen into WWI, which eventually pushed the world toward WWII - the two most futilely fatal warfares in the whole history of mankind. And those two wars taught us that it is not necessary to think that there will be no war if we haven’t witnessed one for a long time.

Current Status

From the lessons that we learned from WWI and WWII, we considered to finally come together as a species and not as nationals, and hence a great unification followed shortly after. The war was over and those who witnessed the war felt an urgent need for unification to prevent anything like the wars, that they just witnessed. This unification brought in a major change in the political systems from all across the world with the introduction of democracy strictly into the place. This unification of mankind caused the foundation of major global universal institutions like the United Nations, International laws, International Criminal Police Organization, in short, INTERPOL, International Criminal Court.

There are more than 20 functional organizations affiliated with the UN’s economic and social council (ECOSOC) including World Health Organization, UNICEF, and UNESCO that working to ensure global integrity. There are also the military forces that act irrespective of the border to eliminate everything that possess a threat to this global integrity. And this is a part of the current state of that ancient idea of unification of all humanity to ensure the survival of humans as a species.

Along with those institutions affiliated with the UN, there

are other institutions that allow us, humans, to cope up with the situation and develop and adapt better as a species. These institutions include the International telecommunication organization, World Bank (IBRD), International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization, and Organization for economic and cooperation and development (OECD). International Labor Organization is also another such organization that ensures better conditions for those who took the responsibility to develop and advance the human race the most, the workers all across the globe and it is important because everybody on this planet is a worker in some way or other.

There is unification at the local level too like in between few countries. Like G7 which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and the US to combat threats to humanity like the threats from terrorism, income inequality, infectious disease, and climate changes. Another organization called G20 includes countries from across the globe from developing to largely developed countries to discuss and address the issues that arise in developing and developed countries by virtue of their situation.

And there is something truly global like the global market, MNCs, internet, and things that are still operational only due to their globally unified nature. Such that some economic crisis in far Europe can hit some southeastern Asian countries too. And outrage in a server house in a corner of silicon valley can cause 404 errors all across the world.

Now, this is the current state of global unification, although all our country borders are not dissolved completely but, we have achieved something that none of our ancestors could have ever thought of. Today the world works in a more unified way than ever.

This thing may become the beginning of the greater unification of humans. But this thing has got its own side effects which demands a separate article for itself.
